Sustainability

Robert Langmead is passionate about environmental issues and puts sustainable choices at the heart of his businesses.

Since its inception Natures Way Foods has prioritised sustainability and responsible growth. Notable achievements include being the first UK food producer to earn the ISO 14001 Environmental Sustainability Award in 2000 and the ISO 50001 International Standard for Energy Efficiency in 2016.

The company is dedicated to reducing waste and improving its carbon footprint. It is actively engaged in recycling and all systems are designed to achieve a target of zero waste to landfill. Process water from its sites is filtered and used to irrigate local fields. Salad and fruit waste is composted to fertilise local fields. Biodiversity areas on its sites work to enhance local flora and fauna where possible.

At Kingsbridge, as a family-owned business, a lasting and positive legacy is particularly important to the company. By putting sustainability at the heart of everything it does, Kingsbridge commits to having a positive social impact while minimising its effect on the environment. It focuses on three key sustainability commitments:

  1. A positive impact on the environment
  2. Prioritising health and wellbeing
  3. Making a positive social impact

Robert is now leading Halnaker Hill Farm towards regenerative methods inspired by his ancestors, focusing on natural soil fertility through livestock, crop rotation, and biodiversity.

The farm’s vision is to create a sustainable farming model that produces organic food, enhances biodiversity, and captures carbon to combat climate change. Plans include restoring hedgerows, planting woodlands, and creating habitats for wildlife.

Through regenerative farming, Robert aims to revive techniques that prioritise soil health and nature conservation.
